Spantik (7024m) :
To get to the base camp of Spantik (7024m), climbers must take the jeep from Skardu to Arandu and then follow the Chogolungma Glacier. The mountain has no technical difficulties, but after snowfall it is rather prone to avalanches. Besides, there are crevasses which should not be underestimated.
In 2006 Shipton Treks & Expeditions organized an expedition whose aim it was to take down a young German woman who had... died of oedema at 5600m. The body was carried down and transported to Germany. We are glad that we were able to be of great service to the relatives of the climber.

K.2 Concorda Gondogoro La trek
This trek leads into the heart of the Karakoram, the “throne room of the mountain goods“ (Galen Rowell), “the most marvellous mountain landscape on earth“ (G.O. Dyhrenfurth). Getting to Concordia (about 70 km) takes about 7 or 8 days, getting back to Askole maybe 5 or 6 days. Trekkers have to walk between 3 and 7 hours daily.
From Askole the path first runs along the Braldo river, until shortly after Payu the Baltoro glacier is reached. After crossing the glacier, you follow it on its true left side until you get to Urdukas, a flower meadow from where you have a unique view of the surrounding mountains (Broad Peak, Trango Towers, Uli Biaho, Cathedral, among others). From then on you stay on the Baltoro which for the most part is covered with debris so that you hardly ever walk on ice. The scenery gets more and more breath-taking: wherever you look, giant rock and ice pyramids, of which Masherbrum, Muztagh Tower and Gasherbrum IV are the highest and the most striking, tower up. Having reached Concordia you can admire K 2 in all its majesty. From here you can walk to K 2 base camp and back in one day.
From Concordia you follow the Baltoro in a southern direction and then turn into the Vigne glacier on which you stay until you get to Ali Camp, the last camp before crossing the Gondogoro La (5940m). From the col you have a view of four 8000- metre peaks: K 2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II. The descent on the other side is partly protected by wire ropes.

The Great Trango Towers(6286-m)
Trango Tower |
Situated on the northern side of the Baltoro Glacier opposite Urdukas, consist of four peaks with vertical granite walls.
Great Trango (6287m) was first climbed on July 21, 1977, by the Americans Galen Rowell, John Roskelly, Kim Schmitz and Dennis Hennek. They had climbed through the South Face of the mountain. The East Face of Great Trango, 1600m from its base to the top, is among the biggest rock walls ...in the world. Its first ascent was made by the Norwegians Hans Christian Doseth and Finn Daehli in 1984, but tragically the two climbers fell to their deaths when abseiling.
The most spectacular of the Trango towers is the so-called Nameless Tower (6251m). It was first climbed via the South-West Face by Bo Anthoine and Martin Boysen from Great Britain. The next day, Joe Brown and Malcolm Howells also reached the top of Nameless Tower. In 1989 Kurt Albert and Wolfgang Güllich wrote Alpine history when they free-climbed a route they called “Eternal Flame“ (with pitches graded 7c) and thus established free-climbing in the high mountains of the world.
